Social Square Dancing vs Mainstream Square Dancing
The Circle 8’s Club teaches and dances the Social Square Dancing (SSD) program of square dancing. SSD was developed as an alternate entry level destination dance program. It is a shorter, easier entry program to square dancing without the implied pressure to progress to other levels, such as Mainstream and Plus. You can read more about Social Square Dancing here: https://callerlab.org/dance-programs/social-square-dancing/
The Callerlab SSD Program consists of 51 dance calls. In comparison, the Basic program includes 48 calls and the Mainstream program adds another 19 calls. The Circle 8’s teaching schedule is designed to cover all the SSD calls within the dance season. If there is interest from club members and there is time, Mainstream calls may also be taught towards the end of the Season, so that club members may also be able to dance at other clubs that dance at the Mainstream level.
